Gold Medal Charter

In Loving Memory of Dr. N. Bhuvaneshwaran

Dr. N. Bhuvaneshwaran was far more than a gifted radiologist — he was a brilliant intellect, a gentle soul, and a beloved friend whose memory continues to inspire us.

His journey began at Madras Medical College (MMC), where he completed his MBBS, laying the foundation for a remarkable medical career. Eager to explore the intersection of medicine and technology, he went on to earn a Master’s degree from IIT Powai, a rare and impressive academic path.

In 2005, he joined the DMRD in Radiodiagnosis at MMC, where we had the privilege of knowing him as a fellow resident. He later completed his DNB in Radiology at the same institution, consistently distinguishing himself with quiet brilliance and dedication.

His excellence was recognized on a global stage when he was awarded the Rohan Williams Medal, earning the Gold Medal in the Final FRCR examination in 2010 — a prestigious and rare honour. Never one to rest on his laurels, he also cleared the USMLE and was preparing to relocate to the United States when his life was tragically cut short by cardiac arrest on November 6, 2019.

Within the department, he was known as the “IT wizard” — a go-to person for tech solutions, always generous with his time and knowledge. But it was his humility, warmth, and kindness that truly set him apart. His presence brought calm and joy; his absence still echoes deeply.

To celebrate his life and legacy, we, his friends and batchmates, have instituted the MEDAL Exam in his name. This initiative honours the values he lived by — academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and quiet generosity — and aims to inspire future radiologists to follow in his footsteps.

Forever remembered. Deeply missed.

— With love,
