On November 7, Medical imaging professionals from the Department of RadioDiagnosis, including the Doctors, Technicians, and DRDT Students at Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Omandurar Govt. Estate, celebrated the
14th International Day of Radiology (IDoR 2025), and the function was presided over by the Dean, Dr. G.HARIHARAN MS., DNB, MCH, FRCS, in the presence of the Vice Principal, Dr.R.Shanthimalar MD, DGO, Dr. G. Thiruvengada Senthilkumar, MS(Oph), Medical Superintendent, and the RMO Dr. P. Saravanan, MBBS DA. Faculty and postgraduate students of Various departments in the Hospital participated.
On the occasion, the Portrait of the Father of Radiology, W.C.Roentgen, was garlanded, and floral tributes were paid by all the Dignitaries. Prof.R.Kanagasabai, Head of the Department of RadioDiagnosis, welcomed the
gathering, and explained in detail, the significance of the International Day of Radiology, 8th of November, and how the X-rays were discovered by Roentgen on that day, in 1895, who subsequently gifted the Invention of XRay tube to all
of Humanity, leading to a Revolution in invivo Imaging of Human Anatomy.
On this Day, we celebrate the vital role radiologists and radiographers play to help improve the management of patients, including early Diagnosis and providing detailed assessment of Pathologies, before treatment can be initiated
and targeted to deliver desirable goals, with the informed consent and choice of the patients.
The IDoR Celebrations also aim to improve the public understanding of the role played by Radiology and Medical Imaging in preventive screening for NCD, Cancer, Vascular disorders, NAFLD, and the prediction of Alzheimer’s disease.
and in identifying treatable cases of seizures, bleeds, ischemia, locomotive and cognitive impairments.
The Dean and other Authorities praised the Department and its Doctors and Staff for their essential role in safe patient care, and particularly, the way the Department has served during the Covid period, scanning more than 17000
patients, and in subsequent years, their selfless service without any cause for complaints from the Public.
